After graduation from university the life changes of the students who will become employee or employer, and more responsible. However, before taking any responsibility, you need to consider a few main points in your life such as; Post graduation if you have not decided yet any path, which you should follow. First thing you need to think about is which career direction you want to choose and make a plan to start your career.Secondly, you may consider going back to school to attend graduate school. However, you need to consider a few issues such as; do you have financial support and do you have time to spend at least two years in school. But after even post graduate first thing needs to be done is writing resume/CV. It is first impression in finding a job.

What is a CV?

Resume is a brief description of your life, where shows all important aspects of your life. However, how to fit all these aspects in one single paper or maximum two? The answer is to include only relevant information about yourself for a special employers. Resume will always grow while you are progressing in your career path. In addition some times, you will require to change the CV if you change your profession or industry.  And the second question comes to mind is what this relevant information is which you will need to put in the CV. The answer is “it depends”. It depends on your career goals as well as the requirement of the company which you are applying. Some times it will take a few days sometimes a few months to make the first CV, but do not forget that the first CV is very important, so the shape and content of it should be determined very carefully. Cv/Resume is a key of a prospective company doors. Right key is a good CV which will open all the doors.

Why to write a CV?

The answer is to get a job of course. But what else it is for?

  1. To show recruiters you are the best person or you have right qualification for the job.
  2. To make an impression about yourself to recruiters to give an interview to them.
  3. To built a professional image of yourself  for recruiters.

Imagine CV as a stand in exhibition. Would you stand in front of all the stands to look at them or will you choose the interesting one, which has nice decoration and a few slides, etc? All these features are your skills. So, would the manager have an interview with everybody or with you who has a lot of skills? Please keep it in mind when writing a CV.

In job searchs, a CV is the first step to get a job chance. It is like your passport to show your identity to get in to new location. But if you have been invited to an interview you will require to explain what is in your CV by showing examples from your life.

I gave a lot of similarity between CV and some things from my life. But I would point it out this last similarity very much. Think a gate with lock which has password, and imagine your CV as a combination for this lock. As much skills you have got as right combination you have. So, how to make good CV in order to have right combination to open the gate? Then you need to consider the followings;

  1. Always write a new CV for each job, specifically highlight required skills on your CV.
  2. Always try to keep your CV different than the others so it can attract an attention.
  3. Always try to direct employers to your best skill which will show you as one of the right person for the applied job.
  4. The CV/Resume format should be pleasant to your eyes, typesetting should be Arial or Times new roman with a size between 11-12pt, although recent days everybody using electronic CV, but do not forget that if you print your CV, it should be printed on a high quality paper.
  5. Use proper highlighting to attract employer attention.

To sum up, the recruiters will review thousands of CVs for one single vacancy in their company. In order to be chosen among the competitors, you should have short, explanatory, different but an interesting CV.
